Reiki practitioners channel energy in a unique pattern to heal and harmonize.
Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy which can facilitate stress-reduction and relaxation, support effective immune-system function, enhance the body's self-healing mechanisms and replenish and nurture vitality. Reiki is holistic in its effect, and may elicit a healing response in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states of the individual.
Reiki is believed to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago. Ancient mystics, healers and seers studied healing energies and developed a unique system of sounds and symbols to incorporate universal healing energies. Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered the root system in the late 1800s. He called this form of healing Reiki and taught it throughout Japan until his death in 1893.. There is much myth and folklore surrounding Usui and his life, enter his name into any search engine to delve deeper.
There are many theories as how what makes Reiki work and there is no clear answer! We do know that it just does! Many believe the Reiki energy just allows the body to correct itself and to re-balance the flow of energy that is needed.
A Brigid's House Reiki session begins with an explanation of the process. The client remains fully clothed and lies on a massage table. All one has to do is relax and be open to the healing energies. The Reiki practitioner will begin a series of touch based interventions at various points on the body - chakras, joints, hands, feet, head, etc. The session usually lasts an hour, but the benefits will continue to manifest for some time after the treatment. So, it is recommended the rest of the day be spent peacefully to best allow the energies to integrate fully. The client may feel heat from the practitioners hands or even a tingling as the healing progresses.
